I make copious notes in my journal and paint watercolours while camping in remote areas.
Travelling through the Great Victoria, Gibson and Great Sandy Deserts of Western Australia, I noted messages gleaned from scraps of paper in pickle jars at junctions. Many roughly made signs at drill holes as well as obsolete directional signs and plaques honouring explorers contrasted with the brightly painted fuel drums indicating aboriginal communities.
The profound experience of living and working in the desert most of my life culminated in my solo exhibition "Katjarra Country" while experiences sustained while trekking in the Kimberley produced works for "Way to Walcott.
"Desert Messages" will be at Kidogo Art House in Fremantle 8th to 13th February 2019.
