Leonie Mac Lean

A little bit of nature on home wares and wearable art Long bush walks and the discovery of Native South West Orchids inspire the photographic imagery of Yallingup artist Leonie Mac Lean. “I like being out in the environment, and I like to record what is here…because we’re losing it.” Many of the tiny flowers are rare or endangered, surviving in small pockets of bush in quite obscure locations. Back in the studio, Leonie reworks the images, creating photographic montages, enhanced with her own colour language, arriving at a series of bold graphic designs. The results of this work are now available printed on rag papers and fabrics. Leonie’s home wares include cushions and drink coasters, alongside textile bags and unique clothing in the form of skirts, scarves, tops and jackets. Bringing another dimension to her arts practice, are the one-off hand-made journals…intricate images of wildflowers and orchids are cleverly scattered through the pages of parchment, drawing and writing papers.
