Using a combination of aerosol, acrylics and inks, Ian merges layers of textures, fragments of landscapes, nature and character illustrations. The resulting artwork can be viewed on two levels – either enjoyed from a distance and also in detail close-up.
Ian’s work explores concepts of memory, story, place and the seasons, and seeks to absorb and entertain the viewer through whimsical narrative, movement and design aesthetics. Paintings are created on a variety of scales – both in the streets and in the studio.
Born in South Africa, Ian Mutch draws inspiration from landscapes, animals, travelling, stories and patterns. His artwork has won awards, given life to public spaces, and featured in well known publications.
He has also co-published Kingbrown Magazine and has been an industry speaker at Agideas Melbourne, the Design Institute of Australia and Semi Permanent Sydney. Ian has recently written and illustrated a children’s storybook titled “More and More and More”.
