Diana Bostock

I come from a family where the arts in the form of painting, music, opera, dance, theatre and landscape gardening are strong influences. As the youngest child with a much older sibling, I spent a lot of time drawing and painting with the tender encouragement of artistic parents. My imagination was fuelled by stories and over an acre of amazing garden filled with ponds and bridges, and paths with borders of colourful flowers. Over the years the love of art has stretched through a range of artistic endeavours. Managing galleries, arranging and curating exhibitions has enabled me to appreciate many forms of art. Our recent amazing trip to France and Italy has emphasised the strong influence art has had on man’s progress and diverse thinking over thousands of years. New ideas are still being explored. The trip has opened up my mind to try different techniques with various mixes of paint and other mediums. Over the years my own art has ranged through oil portraiture, relief sculpture, cartooning and caricatures, and murals. Some years ago I developed a technique of painting on old recycled roofing iron. With a chunk of marble, I would love to try my hand at sculpture in that medium. Instead I have made my creative nest with old dead branches and tin owls, an installation in among the fruit trees in front of the house. Most of my paintings focus on native flora, fauna and marine life, trying to capture the colour, life and movement.
